Kenaston's 2010 Village Anniversary

2010 Centennial Celebration Updates:
Do mark the dates July 2 – 4 on your calendar.  See our Centennial page on the Kenaston website for all events, schedules, registration forms, blog links, and more. The registration forms will be available in the next week or so and can now be downloaded from www.kenaston.ca.

Advance bookings are necessary for all meals as our food services people need firm numbers. We can also use volunteers for a myriad of jobs. There will be tables and chairs to arrange and bars to tend.  Call Susan (252-2001) or Theresa (252-2028) to volunteer.

On Saturday of the Centennial weekend individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to set up display or sales booths anywhere on Central Avenue (by Kenaston Place) or in the Third Street area. Please contact Susan Anholt if you plan to set up a booth.

Also on Saturday the Senior’s will be showing memorabilia of days past at the Adam’s Center. If you have items you could contribute to the display please contact Jeannette 252-2082, Agatha 252-2220, or Mary Ann 252-2721. Besides pictures and general memorabilia various display corners are being discusssed – ie a kitchen corner, sewing corner, etc.

Community Cllean Up Before Our Centennial:We can be proud of our well manicured village, but more can be done to enhance our residential or business lots.  It has been noted that some lots require tree and shrub trimming, others clean up and repairs.  Please help to ensure garbage is picked up, lawns are mowed, and clutter is put away.  Report to village office any areas you have noted that require attention. The Village will be continuing with sidewalk improvements, including desodding, and the  maintainence and beautification of Centennial Park.

The Walking Trail Annual Clean Up will take place on June 8th at 7 pm. Contact Susan Anholt with your offer to help.  Bring your rakes, spades and clippers.

Attention Farmers and Ranchers: You can join the Kenaston Chamber of Commerce as a farming business.  One of the advantages to members is a reduced credit card rate, and an excellent small business group insurance plan.  See the Chamber page on the Kenaston website for more details..

The Buy/Sell/Trade Forum on the Kenaston website:  This forum has been added to our list of features so you can post your items for sale free of charge.  It is easy to use.  Go to the forum and give yourself a user name and password.  From there you can post your items under for sale / for trade / or wanted.  Give it a try…

Put A New Face On Business In The Mid Sask Region: Mid Sask Community Futures Development Corporation operates two Small Business Loans Association Funds which can provide financing of up to $15000.00 to small business within the Region.

At a recent Board Meeting, Mid Sask has decided to offer the Small Business Loan (SBLA) funding at a preferred interest rate of 2% to businesses who wish to enhance the appearance of their business premises through improved signage, a new coat of paint or new exterior finish, window or door awnings, improved lighting, windows or doors, roofing, or street-scaping – to name a few potential projects.

Business owners can also collaborate with other businesses on their block to do “Theming” or to co-ordinate the appearance of their business district by each applying for the financing and coordinating the work to be done.

Mid Sask is excited about this new trial initiative, which could really improve the appearance of our regions business areas.

Our New Employment Page:  If you have a position available, or just want to hire someone for a small job, renovation, yard clean up, etc. then post your opportunity on our website.  If you are a trades person or available to do small jobs around the community post your notice on this page as well. The Kenaston Trade and Craft Show will no longer be organized by the Kenaston Chamber.  If the trade and craft show is something you wish to see continued in our community then you are invited to make this potential event a personal project, or to form a committee or business to see it continue in a brand new way.

Vandalism:  A cash reward is being offered by the Kenaston Chamber of Commerce for information that can be substantiated regarding vandalism in the village.  We all need to participate in a community watch.  Confidentiality will be ensured.  Please contact M.L. Whittles with information.

The Community Business Plan: The Chamber of Commerce business plan is due for renewal and all community members are welcome to make suggestions.  The 2007 revised plan is on-line at http://www.kenaston.ca/pages/chamber.htm or can be picked up at Susan Anholt’s office.  Talk over your ideas with any chamber member to have it brought forward at a chamber meeting.

Real Estate: A reminder to anyone selling real estate in or around Kenaston that you can put your property for sale on the Kenaston website for only $20.00.  People looking to buy a rural property do look at the community websites, and a good number of our recent sales have resulted from our on-line listing.  Contact Glen Pavelich – 252-2711 or email gene.glen@sasktel.net.
