Grant Funding Secured for Arena Enhancement Project
The Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation has approved a grant of $4632.00 towards the Arena Enhancement project. The Chamber and community will need to secure matching funds as well as fund some of the “essential” unfunded parts of the project.
The project has been downsized in relation to the grant amount and unfortunately we will be unable to paint the curling rink as the quote of $11,000 did not receive DDCDC funding.
The project will include shaping the parking lot in front of both arenas, creating parking on the east side of the skating arena, and adding a gravel base and crushed rock to both. Cement parking barriers will placed on the east side of the arena to protect the building. There will new Arena signage as well as a big sign for the campground placed on the side of the arena. The old community sign will be removed and hopefully deemed fit to be re-established at a suitable location downtown for business advertising.
How can you help with the project? There are two meaningful ways!
Donations: We need community donations to bring this project to completion. Our costs are estimated at $8,000.00. Donations over $20.00 can be taken to the “Village of Kenaston” and tax deductible receipts will be issued. The funds will be transferred to the Chamber of Commerce. Smaller donation or donations not requiring a “tax-receipt” can be directed to the Kenaston and District Chamber of Commerce. Thankfully, the project has received it’s first donation of $1500.00 from the Kenaston 2010 Committee.
All donors will be gratefully recognized as contributors to the arena project. Any surplus funds will be designated to the highway symbol as the next Chamber project.
Arena Cleanup
A general site clean-up will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 3pm. We will remove the volunteer trees growing along the foundation of the curling rink facility and clean up garbage and stones at the back, between and along the back of both buildings.
There may be sod to remove close to the foundation on the east side as the grass will likely be removed by then. Thanks
