Village Updates

It is just over a month since the municipal elections were held.  Your council has been sworn in and have convened their first meeting of this term.  It was agreed that ommunication and transparency are key components to good governance.  As a result, steps are being implemented to ensure that the citizenry of Kenaston are kept informed as to the direction council takes in its decision making.  The first step - Early in the New Year a community meeting will be held where council will make themselves available to address concerns, answer questions and listen your ideas and suggestions.

It is an exciting time in the history of our province.  Just a few years ago many people did not believe that we were on the verge of a rapid population growth.  Some would acknowledge the 'boom' but were sceptical as to the scope of this enigma we would see.  It has been no secret that I am, and have always been, one of the believers in Saskatchewan's potential and that the growth we have been experiencing for the past few years is just the beginning.  Kenaston is one of the communities that has been recognized as having the potential for growth.  The key word there being 'potential'.

In order to grow, we need to be forward thinkers.  On behalf of myself and my fellow councillors, we look forward to working togetherover the next four years, ever striving to reach our ‘potential’.

Seniors Club News:

The Kenaston Seniors would like to thank the “Grass Wizards” for cutting the grass around the Adams Centre during the summer months.

On October 25,  Kenaston school students from grades 3 to 6 came to the Adams Centre to make friendship bracelets.  We enjoyed this interaction with the younger members of our community.

On Tuesday January 15th at 2:15 pm there will be a speaker to talk on “Senior Winter Safety” (fall prevention, balance exercises, etc.)  Lunch.  Everyone is welcome. The monthly meeting will follow at 4pm. There will be no Regular Meeting in December.

Kenaston Seniors will play host for the District Winter Games on February 6.  Games will be 500, Cribbage and Snooker.

Exercise Classes at the Adams Centre are being held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Christmas Hamper Project

Every year the Christmas season brings excitement and wonder, but to many in our midst it also brings with it the stress of added financial burdens. Once again the Christmas Hamper Committee will be collecting monetary donations that will be used to purchase Co-op gift cards. These gift cards will be distributed to recipients enabling them to purchase food items for themselves.

Anyone wishing a tax receipt can make their donation through a local church or the Seniors. If you know of a family or individual in need please submit the name to Pastir Gene Whitehead or Rev. Deacon Susan Anholt. Potential recipients will be contacted to ensure their approval. All submissions are kept in the strictest confidence! Thank you for your generosity in this yearly effort.

Tabs For Tots School Program - Coordinator Miss P

Kenaston School will no longer be collecting the tabs off beverage cans because the Diabetes Association is no longer accepting them. The cost to separate the steel tabs from the aluminium tabs began to exceed the amount of money the Diabetes Association was receiving to help off-set the costs for people with Type I and Type II diabetes. Thank you for supporting this school program since 1994!. {Over 100 lbs. of tabs were donated over the past 18 years.}

FYI - Yes, I am still collecting the Campbells Soup Labels {as well as Prego Spaghetti sauce & goldfish cracker upcs} for the school. Each label/upc is worth a point. The points are banked in our school account on line. Points are redeemed for equipment/supplies for the school. Once Sonia Howells and I have time to bank the last stash, we will post the points we have to date in a future Crossroads Issue. Soup/pasta labels& upcs can be dropped off at the school, 4 Cs Cornerstore, the Co-op or the stoop in my garage.
