Rink Beautification Project

You may have noticed the bright new shade of white on the Kenaston Curling Rink.   In celebration of the “Year of the Cooperatives”, Riverbend Co-op donated of 40 gallons of paint and spearheaded the project.

Since our arena and curling rink sit next to Highway 11 and speak of Kenaston community pride, a volunteer paint crew took on this project on August 10.  Volunteers included:  Susan Anholt, Laurie Beckie, Taylor Black, Toni Tweet, Cory Ouellette, Shae-Lynn Evans, Shelby Evans, Ken Remmen, Butch Millsap, Dan O'Handley, Bob Mason, Florence Greke, Gene Whitehead,& Lorne Anholt. Thanks to all.

Alternate Phone Directory

The 2012 alternate phone directory is now available via email from Glen Pavelich gene.glen@sasktel.net. Along with the regular names and phone numbers, this directory contains PO Box numbers, spousal names, and 2nd numbers.  Theresa Owen has volunteered to call those who have not yet submitted in order to get a more complete directory of those wishing to be included.  Thank you to all who have participated.  If anyone wishes to assist Theresa  to make the calls to the remaining residents please let her know. 252-2028

Community Spirit:

The Community Barbeque on August 8th went very well, and the volunteer team had everything well handled.  A big thank you to everyone who came out for the evening.  There were 17 welcome baskets prepared for new town residents.  Thank you to the local businesses for your donations to the baskets. 100 years of Ministry

St. Columba Anglican Church will celebrate 100 years of ministry on Saturday, November 3. 

A service of Holy Communion will take place at 4:30pm, followed by a banquet at Kenaston Place. Tickets are available from Tracy Taylor.

St. Andrews Roman Catholic Parish will also celebrate 100 years in 2012.

Terry Fox Walkathon
Once again this year Affinity Credit Union was honored to partner with Kenaston School to host the Terry Fox Walkathon and Barbeque on September 19, 2012. This year there were 135 walkers and pledges and monies collected from the BBQ equaling  $3500.00. Affinity was please to supply the staff and groceries for this worthy even and donated 100% of the proceeds to the Terry Fox Walkathon. 

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the fundraiser a huge success.

Seniors News

After a break for the months of July and August, the Kenaston Seniors resumed their Regular Meeting schedule in September.  Meetings are held at 3:30 pm on the third Tuesday of each month

The Kenaston Seniors will be holding “55 Alive” a mature driving presentation by SGI.  The presentation will review, but not test, the rules for safe driving.  Watch for further information about this event. 

Seniors’ Week in Saskatchewan takes place
from October 1 to October 7.

Village News

Election: Brent Hartman, Mike Menzies, Kevin Mills and Leon Tomlenovich are returning to council by acclamation.
Mayor: There is a second call for nominations for the position of mayor. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Village Office. Nominations must be returned to Village Office by 4 pm on October 3, 2012.

 Loraas bins are for village taxpayers to rent.  The bin beside the water treatment plant costs $5.00 per use and the one at the dump site costs $10.00 per use. Both require the key from Village Office.
· 
ALERT: according to the Ministry of Environment any wood taken out to the dump is not allowed to have paint on it. Painted wood left at the site may result in closure of nuisance ground. 
· 
A building and demolition permit is now required as council has passed a building bylaw.  All development or demolition (excluding decks) requires a permit for a minimum fee of $20.00.
