Kenaston Place Committee Report:

A very successful Harvest Wind-Up was held on October 22 with Big Daddy Tazz as the entertainment for the evening. After five years of hosting this fundraising event, we were finally able to pay off a loan for the painting and carpeting of our facility. Thanks to the committee for all their work and to volunteers and community members who supported this event.

Our next project is to update the sound system speakers and Gene Pavelich is investigating possibilities of the available new technologies. We have also applied for a Canada 150 grant to purchase two new gas ovens and to replace the parging around the building. We have had occasional requests to use hall equipment outside the premises. It is our policy that equipment, including tables, chairs and tablecloths, is for use within the facility.

What a great success. Thank you to all the vendors and everyone who came to the supper to support Kenaston Parks and Rec. Thank you to the Kenaston Small Businesses and residents that purchased Co-op gift cards to help purchase the turkeys, hams and other groceries. A big thank you to the wonderful residents that donated buns, salads, potatoes, pickles and the delicious desserts. You made the meal very special with your generous homemade donations. A very special thank you to everyone that helped set up, cook the meal, carve turkeys, and clean up. A event cannot happen without people like all of you and I truly thank you for all your help.

Fundraising: The Kenaston Community Recreational Facility Fundraisers are looking for donations and volunteers for future fundraisers. We need to raise enough money to operate our Rink, Pool and Hall, which is close to $100,000 a year. We need everyone in our community to support the events through attendance, volunteerism and donations to even come close to raising enough money for facility upgrades and operation. If you can help in any way we can write you a taxable receipt as the Kenaston Community Recreation Board is a non-profit organization that is made up of numerous volunteers from the community.

Reindeer with book
Kenaston Wheatland Library The Kenaston library has been a busy part of the community this fall. We had a "guess the weight of the pumpkin" kids contest at Halloween time with Matthew Zdunich the winner.

Our displays have changed from dance, hockey, hunting season, Remembrance Day and now Christmas.

We hosted Mary Bishop, author of the Tunnels of Time down at the school and are excited to learn we will be hosting another presentation called "Rabbit and Bear Paws" in February.

The local library board is busy fundraising to do some much needed upgrading to the outside of the building. We are building a new wheel chair ramp and building new stairs, as well as new windows and siding the future. The library board has worked hard at hosting BBQ's all summer, selling Cookbooks, and the new 2017 Community calendars. We also have an ongoing book sale room to which the funding goes to building upgrades. We welcome donations to which you would get a tax receipt.

Library Christmas hours will be announced in December.
